Senior Data Platform Engineer
Location: Galway office for 1 week per month
Start Date: ASAP
Daily Rate: €450 - €520
Duration: 11 months
We have an outstanding opportunity for a Senior Data Platform Engineer to work in a delivery team within an Asset Management Technology group. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, developing & implementing data analysis and visualization solutions which are critical for the senior financial analysts, portfolio managers and senior executives who reside at the investment research value proposition.
Responsibilities:
• Take end to end ownership of critical data visualization and reporting capabilities, working independently while ensuring reliability, continuity, and accuracy for senior financial analysts, portfolio managers, and executives.
• Provide technical and design leadership for the evolution of the reporting platform, driving enhancements based on the needs of non technical financial users and translating complex requirements into clear, high value visual outputs.
• Partner closely with existing business and technology owners of legacy reporting systems, shadowing and learning established solutions before assuming ownership and modernizing them without disrupting trusted outputs.
• Act as a bridge between business and technology, building strong relationships with research analysts and leadership to understand workflows, decision making needs, and data interpretation challenges.

Required Skills & Experience
• 7 years in software development or data engineering.
• Strong Linux proficiency (networking, processes, filesystem, cron, systemctl).
• Strong experience in shell scripting (bash, ksh, zsh).
• Professional experience with Perl/python or similar scripting language in production systems.
• Solid understanding of data science concepts, statistical methods, and data analysis tooling.
• Proficiency with SQL, relational schema design, and optimization.
• Experience with visualization and chart generation tools.
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, Git, and automated deployment workflows.
• Excellent analytical, communication, and organizational skills
• Ability to take ownership of a complex script-based code base
• Work closely with business stakeholders to understand and deliver on their unique visualization objectives
• You are able to act independently under general direction.
Preferred / Nice to Have Skills
• Experience modernizing legacy scripting ecosystems.
• Knowledge of pipelines involving message queues, APIs, ETL schedulers, or workflow managers.
• Exposure to cloud environments (AWS, GCP, Azure).
• Python for data automation, ML, or web APIs.
• Experience building internal libraries or reusable tooling for engineering teams.
