I am partnered with an AI startup, backed by a significant round of funding looking for a principal-level software engineer who wants to apply big-system thinking to a smaller, faster environment.
You’ll be building production software that sits directly on top of large-scale generative models. That means turning research outputs into stable interfaces, reliable workflows, and product surfaces that hold up under real usage.
What you’ll do
- Design and own full stack systems
- Build frontend applications
- Own backend APIs, data models, auth boundaries, and async processing
- Design event-driven pipelines for large media ingestion, background processing, retries, and failure recovery
- Work directly with research to define clean contracts between model outputs and product interfaces
- Raise engineering standards through architecture, reviews, and example implementations
How the stack looks in practice
- TypeScript end to end
- React with Tailwind and Radix-based component patterns
- Convex-style backend architecture with strongly typed queries, mutations, actions, and realtime state
- Async-first design with explicit failure handling and observability
- AWS used narrowly and intentionally for Lambda, S3, and event triggers
About you
- You operate at senior, staff, or principal level in a high-bar engineering environment
- You are comfortable owning ambiguous problems without layers of review or process
- You think about systems, invariants, and failure modes as much as code
- You can move fast without compromising quality of work
- You want your decisions to matter
Nice to have
- Experience productising ML or LLM-backed systems
- Python for tooling or model-adjacent work
- Experience with serverless or backend-as-a-service architectures
