Build new business in a growing technology market
I’m working with an international technology consultancy looking to strengthen its presence in the German Financial Services sector by appointing a commercially minded Business Development Manager.
This role would suit someone who enjoys opening doors, building relationships from scratch and turning conversations with senior decision-makers into substantial commercial opportunities.
You’ll have the opportunity to develop your own market strategy, identify organisations with a need for specialist technology expertise and bring together the right people to turn those needs into commercially successful projects.
The business works with clients on complex technology initiatives spanning software development, data, AI and digital transformation, helping organisations solve business challenges through tailored technical solutions.
What will you be doing?
-
Developing new client relationships: Identify and approach prospective customers across the German Banking or Insurance sector, using your industry knowledge and professional network to establish new partnerships.
-
Creating commercial opportunities: Build a pipeline of qualified prospects, generate interest in the organisation’s capabilities and develop opportunities through to contract award.
-
Working with senior stakeholders: Establish credibility with executives and business leaders, understand their strategic priorities and identify where technology consulting can deliver measurable business value.
-
Bringing solutions to market: Partner with technical consultants and delivery specialists to develop proposals that respond to client challenges and business objectives.
-
Negotiating commercial agreements: Manage pricing, contract discussions and deal terms, balancing customer requirements with revenue and profitability targets.
-
Expanding market reach: Identify promising industry segments, develop targeted business development plans and build visibility through relevant professional networks and industry events.
-
Collaborating across the business: Coordinate with internal specialists throughout the sales process and ensure a smooth transition to the relevant client team once new business has been secured.
This is a proactive, new-business-focused position rather than a traditional account management role. You’ll be responsible for generating your own opportunities and converting them into signed engagements, with support from experienced technical and delivery teams.
What will make you successful?
We’re interested in hearing from professionals who bring:
-
A proven background in business development or new client acquisition within the German Banking or Insurance market.
-
An established network of relevant industry contacts, ideally including senior executives and business decision-makers.
-
Experience winning complex consulting or technology services engagements, from initial prospecting through to commercial agreement.
-
The ability to understand business challenges and connect them to appropriate technology solutions, particularly in software engineering, data, AI or digital transformation.
-
A good understanding of professional services commercial models, including project-based engagements, solution selling, pricing and profitability.
-
Strong negotiation skills and the confidence to manage lengthy sales cycles involving multiple stakeholders.
-
A self-directed approach to identifying target accounts, developing a pipeline and prioritising opportunities with genuine commercial potential.
-
The ability to work effectively with technical experts and translate their capabilities into compelling business propositions.
-
Fluency in German and strong English communication skills, enabling effective engagement with clients and international colleagues.
What can you expect?
-
Room to shape your own approach: Take ownership of your target market and build a business development strategy around your strengths and relationships.
-
Earning potential linked to results: Receive a competitive base salary alongside performance-related incentives.
-
Access to specialist expertise: Work alongside multidisciplinary teams with capabilities across engineering, software, data, AI and business consulting.
-
Meaningful client engagements: Help financial institutions address challenging business and technology requirements through tailored solutions.
-
A collaborative working environment: Benefit from close cooperation between commercial, consulting and technical teams.
-
The chance to influence growth: Make a direct contribution to expanding the organisation’s client base and commercial footprint in Germany.
