Software Engineering Team Lead – Deep Tech Control Systems We are partnering with a deep-tech organisation developing advanced software infrastructure for next-generation quantum computing systems. They are seeking a Software Engineering Team Lead to lead the development of a modular control platform that orchestrates highly complex hardware systems with nanosecond-level timing precision.

As the system scales toward 1,000 qubits and beyond, the software stack becomes increasingly sophisticated. You will lead a team working at the intersection of high-level Python-based experiment design and low-level, time-critical hardware execution layers.

What You’ll Do Lead with Technical Credibility
You will manage and mentor a high-performing engineering team while remaining hands-on in technical decision-making. This is a leadership role with strong architectural responsibility.

Drive Core Platform Development
You will oversee the development of software that enables users to define experiments in Python and compile them into efficient, low-level instructions executed on specialised hardware systems.

Shape Engineering Practices
You will have autonomy in defining and improving team processes. The focus is on enabling fast, effective engineering delivery with minimal unnecessary overhead.

Cross-Functional Collaboration
Work closely with hardware engineers, FPGA specialists, and scientific teams to ensure seamless integration between software and physical systems.

Why This Role? This is an opportunity to work in a fast-growing deep-tech environment where your work directly contributes to breakthroughs in quantum computing and advanced control systems. The organisation fosters a highly collaborative, technically ambitious culture spanning software engineering, physics, and hardware development.

Benefits include:

  • Hybrid working model (3 days onsite, 2 days remote)
  • 30 days annual leave plus public holidays
  • Competitive salary with strong employer pension contribution
  • Equity participation scheme
  • Relocation support and full visa sponsorship for international candidates and families
About the Environment The organisation operates at the forefront of quantum-enabled technology, building the control infrastructure required for scalable quantum computing. It is an international team of engineers, scientists, and software specialists working across multiple locations in Europe and the US.

They place strong emphasis on diversity of thought and inclusive collaboration, supported by active internal initiatives focused on culture and team development.

What We’re Looking For
  • 7 years software engineering experience
  • At least 2 years in a team lead or strong technical leadership role
  • Strong Python development skills and solid software engineering fundamentals
  • Practical understanding of software design principles (e.g. SOLID, design patterns)
  • Experience mentoring engineers and developing team capability
  • Comfort working with complex systems and architectural trade-offs
  • Exposure to compiler concepts (ASTs, IRs) is advantageous
  • Interest in scientific computing or complex technical domains (e.g. NumPy, SciPy, Qiskit) is a plus
