I'm working with a fast-scaling AI product company (millions of users across mobile, web and API products) that needs a senior Django contractor to take ownership of the pricing and subscription system at the core of their revenue.
This is a genuinely high-ownership role: architecture through to shipped code through to watching your releases perform in production. Small senior team, direct CTO exposure, backend deployed multiple times a week.
The work
- Own the delivery and architecture of the pricing system used by every product surface and millions of users
- Optimise existing endpoints — drive down latency, keep it scaling as usage grows
- Design endpoints in direct collaboration with frontend engineers, with OpenAPI specs and supporting docs
- Monitor your own releases (Datadog) and iterate fast on real usage data
- Work cross-functionally with product and frontend to ship seamless user experiences
- 5+ years of hands-on Django and Django Rest Framework — this is a hard requirement, not "Python with some Django exposure"
- Relational databases at real scale: schema design, Django query optimisation, zero-downtime migrations on PostgreSQL/MySQL databases 100GB+
- Production experience with subscription and billing infrastructure — Stripe and/or RevenueCat
- A pragmatic, ship-fast mindset: speed of iteration over perfection, frameworks over reinvention
- Strong ownership — comfortable making product and technical decisions without hand-holding
- Fluent English
- Available to start within 1–2 weeks
- Contract, initial 3 months, strong likelihood of extension
- Fully remote (EU-based), occasional overlap with CET hours
